Step into the historic surroundings of Birmingham Botanical Gardens and discover a captivating illuminated trail filled with dazzling displays, interactive light installations and synchronised soundscapes. Luminate Birmingham offers a magical festive evening for families, friends and visitors of all ages, with the experience having already welcomed more than one million visitors nationwide.
The Birmingham light trail winds through the gardens for nearly one mile (approximately 1.4 km), with music-synchronised installations, projection mapping and dynamic laser effects creating an immersive experience as you make your way through the gardens.
Along the Luminate Birmingham light trail, discover interactive light displays including tunnels of light, mirror balls, waterfall effects and more, with different installations providing plenty to see and enjoy along the route.
Friendly stewards are positioned throughout the Christmas light trail in Birmingham to help guide visitors. The trail usually takes around 60–90 minutes to complete, with the option to walk the route again if you would like to enjoy the displays for longer.
Please note that some features include flashing and rotating lights, while projection shows can include up to 10 light flashes per second. Occasional haze or smoke may also be used to enhance the atmosphere.

The trail is entirely outdoors, so visitors should wrap up warmly and wear suitable footwear.
Booking Luminate Birmingham 2026
Tickets for Luminate Birmingham 2026 must be booked online in advance. Entry is by timed slot, with spaces available at 15-minute intervals from 4.30pm onwards.
Tickets are limited for each timeslot and popular dates can sell out, particularly weekends, early evening slots and dates closer to Christmas. Visitors are advised to book early to secure their preferred date and entry time.

Food, Drinks & Marshmallows
There are festive food and drink options available during the experience, including hot chocolate, tea, coffee and mulled wine. Visitors can also enjoy marshmallows around the firepits.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own marshmallows and skewers.
Please note that outside alcohol is not permitted.

Car parking at the venue is very limited. Parking is available locally at:
Edgbaston School, Monday to Saturday only
The University, City South Campus just across the road.

Accessibility
The trail at Birmingham Botanical Gardens is designed to be as accessible as possible within the natural landscape.
The entire route is outdoors and follows paths throughout. There is one short bark chipping section that may be difficult in bad weather, but an alternative route is available.
Some areas include inclines and declines that may be challenging for guests using mobility aids, especially in poor weather, but all of these sections follow the permanent, accessible pathways around the Gardens.
Accessible toilets are available.
If extreme weather makes the trail unsuitable for wheeled mobility aids, ticket transfers to a more suitable date may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
