Pottery Pumpkins Course

Spend a day creating and decorating your very own hand-built pottery pumpkin, taking inspiration from the renowned contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama’s iconic pumpkin sculptures! In this fun-filled one-day course, children will learn various hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building, and sculpting clay. They’ll also explore creative ways to decorate their pumpkins using colored slips and techniques that echo Kusama's distinctive style, known for its playful use of repetition and pattern.

The workshop is a great introduction to the world of ceramics, offering a chance to work with clay, make new friends, and explore creativity in one of MAC’s fully equipped studios. With plenty of support and guidance, participants will be encouraged to refine their work and produce a unique ceramic piece to take home—once it has been dried, fired, and is ready for collection about 4 weeks after the workshop.

Who is it for?
This course is perfect for children aged 6 to 11 years, open to all experience levels. A learning support worker is available, and all staff are DBS checked. Parents are not required to attend, but a parent or carer may accompany a child if needed, with a complimentary ticket. The room is wheelchair accessible, though children should have good hand dexterity for working with clay.

What to bring?
All materials and equipment are provided. Children should bring their own lunch for a supervised one-hour break.
