Rubbish Portrait Course
This two-day course invites children to create their own self-portraits using discarded and waste materials, inspired by the MAC exhibition Waste Age: What Can Design Do? The course begins with a tour of the exhibition, encouraging participants to think about how waste can be repurposed into art. Children will then use various discarded materials to craft a 3D self-portrait, learning about upcycling and the creative potential of reused materials. The course also covers a range of 2D and 3D visual art, design, and craft-making techniques, emphasizing how repurposing materials can reduce environmental impact.
Who is it for?
The course is designed for children aged 8 to 14 years, suitable for all experience levels. A learning support worker is provided, and all staff are DBS checked. Parents do not need to attend, but a parent or carer may accompany a child if required, with a complimentary ticket. The venue is wheelchair-accessible, and specific access needs can be discussed in advance.
What to bring?
All materials and equipment are provided. Children should dress appropriately, as some activities may be messy. Lunch is not provided, so participants should bring their own lunch for a supervised one-hour break.
