Sherlock Holmes and The 12 Days of Christmas

Immerse yourself in a gloriously chaotic Christmas adventure as Birmingham Rep premieres a brand-new festive comedy whodunnit starring Sherlock Holmes.

Set in Victorian London’s West End, actors are suddenly dropping dead mid-performance.

Scotland Yard dismisses it, but Sherlock spots a mysterious connection to The Twelve Days of Christmas, launching him, Dr Watson, and rival sleuth Athena Faversham into a frantic race involving French Hens, Gold Rings, Mother Goose and more.

Written by comic masterminds Humphrey Ker and David Reed (The Penny Dreadfuls) with original songs by musical legends Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show blends Holmesian detective drama with pantomime mayhem, festive sparkle, razor-sharp wit, and laugh-out-loud slapstick.

Praised by critics as “gleefully theatrical” and “a madcap romp,” it runs for around 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval, and is suitable for ages 10 to 110 (no under-5s).

Tickets start from £29.50, with discounts for ages 16–25, and a full programme of audio described, BSL interpreted, captioned, and relaxed performances, plus a Post-Show Discussion on 9 January.

Expect mystery, music, mischief, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree, perfect for a festive night out.
