Wheelwork for Young People
Date: Thu 20 – Fri 21 Feb | Duration: 5hrs per day | Price: £79.75 | Ages: 12-17

If you’ve ever wanted to try throwing pots, this is your chance to get hands-on with ceramics and learn how to create beautiful ceramic bowls on a potter’s wheel!

What Will You Learn?
This course is the perfect introduction to the exciting world of ceramics. You’ll learn the fundamentals of throwing pots on the wheel and get to decorate your creations using coloured slips. The course includes tutor demonstrations and practical activities that give you the freedom to explore clay and hone your skills.

You’ll start with the basics of wheelwork and be guided step by step in making your own bowls. As you learn, you’ll also get to personalize your pots with decoration and colour to make them truly unique. The course gives you the chance to develop your pottery skills while building a sense of accomplishment and creativity.

Course Highlights:

  • Introduction to pottery using a potter’s wheel.
  • Learn the art of throwing and decorating bowls.
  • Receive guidance and support from an experienced tutor, Serge Sanghera.
  • Take home your handmade pieces after they’ve been fired and finished. (Note: pottery will need time to dry and fire, so your creations will be available for collection 4 weeks later).

Who is This Course For?
This course is open to all young people aged 12 to 17 years, from beginners to those with prior pottery experience. Everyone will be supported through the process, and those with more experience can work independently with guidance.

All participants will be provided with a learning support worker, and all staff are DBS checked. Parents are not expected to stay during the course. The studio is wheelchair accessible, and we also have accessible potter’s wheels available.

What to Bring:
Everything you need will be provided, including materials and equipment. You may want to bring your own apron (or we’ll provide one if you don’t).

Please Note:

  • Lunch is not provided, so be sure to bring your own packed lunch for the supervised one-hour break.
  • All materials, equipment, and firing costs are included in the course price.

Who Teaches This Course?
Serge Sanghera, an experienced pottery instructor, will guide you through each step of the process.
